International Students
For people coming to India for the first time, here's a list of some of the nformation you may need.

 

  Visa Information
If you are not an Indian Citizen you will need a visa to visit India. Visa can be issued from your closest Indian Embassy / Consulate. Once you register for a course with us, we will give you a letter. This letter will form the basis on which you can be issued a visa to come to India for your further studies.

Student Visa are issued for the duration of the academic course of study or for a period of five years whichever is less, on the basis of firm letters of admission from Universities/recognized colleges or educational institutions in India. Change of purpose and institutions are not permissible.

Student Visa Fees
If visa is for more than 180 days, registration is compulsory within 14 days of first arrival in India.

Currency regulations
There are no restrictions on the amount of foreign currency or travellers' cheques a tourist may bring into India provided he makes a declaration in the Currency Declaration Form given to him on arrival. This will enable him not only to exchange the currency bought in, but also to take the unspent currency out of India on departure. Cash, bank notes and travellers' cheques up to US$ 1,000 or equivalent, need not be declared at the time of entry.

Any money in the form of travellers' cheques, drafts, bills, cheques, etc. in convertible currencies, which tourists wish to convert into Indian currency, should be exchanged only through authorised money changers and banks who will issue an encashment certificate that is required at the time of reconversion of any unspent money into foreign currency. Exchanging of foreign currency other than banks or authorised money changers is an offense under Foreign Exchange Regulations Act 1973.

Credit cards are widely accepted in India, particularly Diners Club, MasterCard, American Express and Visa. With American Express, MasterCard or Visa cards you can use your card to obtain cash in rupees.

Arrival & Departure Formalities

Arrival Formalities :
If the visa, for stay in India, is for more than 180 days, a Registration Certificate and Residential Permit should be obtained from the nearest Foreigners' Registration Office within 15 days of arrival. All persons including Indian nationals are required to fill in a Disembarkation Card, at the time of arrival. Four photographs are also required for registration. The foreigners registered at Foreigners' Registration Office are required to report change of their addresses.

Departure from India :
All persons, except nationals of Bhutan & Nepal, leaving by air, road or rail have to fill in an Embarkation Card at the time of departure.

Exit Formalities :
Every foreigner who is about to depart finally from India shall surrender his Certificate of Registration either to the Registration Officer of the place where he is registered or of the place from where he intends to depart or to the Immigration Officer at the Port/Checkpost of exit from India.

Time
India is 5 1/2 hours ahead of GMT/UTC, 4 1/2 hours behind Australian Eastern Standard Time and 10 1/2 hours ahead of American Eastern Standard Time. It is officially known as IST, Indian Standard Time and is consistent throughout the country.

Climate
India has three major seasons: Summer, winter, and the monsoon.
The summer months (April - June) are hot in most parts of India. This is the season to visit the summer resorts of Shimla, Mussoorie, Nainital, Kufri and Kashmir valley, Darjeeling, Shilong, Ootacamund, Kodaikanal, Pachmarhi and Mount Abu.
The winter months (November - March) are pleasant throughout India with bright sunny days. Winter is more severe in the northern plains, and in the foot hills of the Himalayas, while the southern, eastern and western zones of India, remain pleasantly cool.

The monsoons break at the beginning of June on the Southwest coast of India, and gradually break at all parts of the country, except southeastern areas. These areas receive most of their rainfall between mid-October and end-December.
